In a recent CND meeting behind closed doors, participants discussed two of the six WHO recommendations on cannabis: – removal of cannabis “extracts and tinctures” from Schedule 1 to the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961. – adding a footnote to the entry for cannabis in Schedule 1 of the 1961 Single Convention to clarify that preparations containing mainly CBD and up to 0.2% THC are not under international control. These changes would represent major progress in opening the market to CBD-based foods and would allow novel food authorization procedures to be processed. It remains to wait patiently for the voting results scheduled for December.
